Solar Structure Design

Solar panels are only as reliable as the structure under them. We engineer the racking, mounts and supports for rooftop, ground-mount and carport solar — sized for wind, snow and seismic loads and detailed to pass review.

Overview

What you get

Solar structure design is a niche, and it's one we know intimately — our founder spent over four years engineering solar mounting structures for a US company before founding iStructify. We design and certify the structural side of solar: rooftop attachment and racking, ground-mounted array frames and foundations, and solar carports, along with the structural checks an existing roof needs before panels go on it.

Get the structure wrong and you risk uplift in high wind, failed connections, or a roof that can't take the extra load — and a permit package that stalls. We run the wind, snow and seismic load analysis, size the members and connections, design the foundations or roof attachments, and produce the stamped structural documentation your EPC, installer or authority needs.

Problems we solve

Wind uplift and load failures

Solar arrays catch the wind. Under-designed racking and connections risk uplift and failure in a storm.

Roofs that can't take the panels

Adding an array loads an existing roof — without a structural check, that's a real risk.

Permit packages that stall

Incomplete or unstamped structural calculations hold up approval and push back your install.

Foundations and racking that don't suit the site

Ground-mount arrays need foundations matched to the soil, wind and terrain.

How we help

What we do about it

01

Rooftop solar structural design

Attachment and racking design, plus a structural assessment of the existing roof's capacity to carry the array.

02

Ground-mount racking & foundations

Array frames and foundations engineered for the site's wind, snow, seismic and soil conditions.

03

Solar carport structures

Structural design of carport canopies that carry panels and the elements while keeping clear spans below.

04

Loads, calcs & stamped documentation

Wind, snow and seismic analysis, member and connection design, and the structural package your project needs to pass review.

The payoff

What you walk away with

Good engineering is invisible — until you see it in your budget, your programme and how the building performs for years afterwards.

  • Arrays that stay putEngineered for the worst wind your site will see.
  • Roofs that can copeCapacity confirmed before a single panel goes up.
  • Faster approvalsComplete, compliant structural packages that clear review.
  • A niche specialistYears of dedicated solar structure experience on your side.

FAQs

Solar Structure Design — your questions answered

Rooftop mounting and racking, ground-mounted array frames and foundations, and solar carports — plus the structural assessment of existing roofs before an array is added.
Yes. We assess the existing roof structure's capacity for the additional dead and wind loads from the array and design the attachments accordingly.
Yes. We run wind, snow and seismic load analysis, size members and connections, and produce the structural calculations and documentation your EPC, installer or authority needs.
Definitely. Our founder spent years designing solar structures for a US company entirely remotely — working at a distance with EPCs and installers is exactly how this part of the business grew.
